About me

Daniel Julià (Barcelona, 1967) is a generative artist and developer. His work sits at the intersection of art and technology: he writes code as a creative material and builds systems of rules and parameters from which artworks emerge that are never identical.

He has worked with interactive and visual programming since 1996. He started in multimedia creation with C++, Macromedia Director and Flash, then moved to JavaScript and Canvas. More recently he has focused on long-form generative art on the blockchain, with series such as Flowr, Generland, Bidaniel Tree, One Million Trees and Swedish Forest, and on fxhash with Painting Flocks (2021) and Blob Art Generator (2023). His pieces have been shown in group exhibitions, talks and round tables in Barcelona.

He holds a Telecommunications Engineering degree (UPC, 1993) and a DEA in Audiovisual Communication (UPF, 2001). He was a research technician and technical head of the multimedia department at UPF (1995–2006), lecturer on its digital arts master's, and head of department at Lost Boys Interactive (1999–2001). Since 2007 he is a partner at pimpampum.net, and since 2008 an associate professor at the UOC (CMS, web development, data science). Among other recognitions, he received an honorary mention at Prix Ars Electronica (1999, REaCT) and second prize at Innova Challenge MX (2015, Flux).
